Proudly Present Festival-Palooza! A Wild Weekend of Rockin' Music Festivals! AND True Spirit A Celebration of The Films of Murray Lerner (1927-2017)
The Egyptian Theatre - Hollywood Aero Theatre - Santa Monica
As befits a child of the Sixties - we've been taking it easy the last few years! So L.A.'s favorite retro film festival has been on a bit of a sabbatical... But we heard all the pleas from those who used to attend our jollities - and despite those pleas we've decided to rebirth anyway (!) and share celluloid magic with Los Angeles again! So this August and September we are baaaaaaack! 24 films over ten evenings. And during the festival we will be presenting no less than eight premieres! This festival has broadly two strands - that interweave on certain evenings. The first strand - over the opening three-night weekend - is "Festival-Palooza!" Eight great films that allow you to experience eight great years of music festivals from 1963 to 1970! You'll be at the Newport Folk Festival when Dylan goes electric... At Monterey when Jimi Hendrix catches fire... At Woodstock when the Who explode... And at the Isle of Wight when the Doors declare The End! And you'll experience it all in chronological sequence! You'll start on Friday evening at Newport in '63 dressed in Ivy League meets beatnik chic - and you'll end up on Sunday night at the Isle of Wight in stoned tie-dye psychedelic glory! The second strand - over the following weekends - also interweaves with the first weekend. It is "True Spirit" - a retrospective salute to the great music documentarian Murray Lerner who passed away last September. Murray filmed most of the major musicians of his era - from Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix to The Who and The Doors. From Joni Mitchell and Johnny Cash to Miles Davis and Jethro Tull. Included in the screenings are 90 minutes of never-before-seen performances by major stars from his private vaults! And amidst all the films are a few works by other great directors of the era... And those PREMIERES!!!!
Plus five other special premieres! During the course of the festival you will enjoy over 50 of the best Rock, Pop, Folk, Country, Blues, R&B, Soul, Jazz, Gospel, Doo-Wop, Raga and Prog-Rock acts of the 1960s & 1970s. Plus Tiny Tim!!! So: TURN ON! to the details on this website... TUNE IN! to the groovy movie schedule - and DROP OUT! of today's crazy madness back to the joyous exuberant halcyon nirvana of the MODS & ROCKERS!!!!
